PERSIS VEHAR  

PERSIS VEHAR was born in 1937 in New Salem, NY. She studied with Warren Benson while earning a B.M. in Music Theory at Ithaca College, and with Ross Lee Finney and Roberto Gerhard while at University of Michigan receiving a M.M. in Piano. Vehar also studied with Ned Rorem while teaching and accompanying in Buffalo. She was on the faculty of the New England Music Camp in Maine from 1962 through 1966 and is composer-in-residence at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY.

Vehar’s music has been performed in Carnegie Recital Hall and on campuses throughout the US.  She has performed as piano recitalist, orchestral soloist, and accompanist to leading performers including the legendary saxophonist Sigurd Rascher. Her list of compositions, which have garnered awards from many sources, includes over 200 works in the catalogs of ten publishers and three record companies.
